Clonkill – Crookedwood Match Prediction | 15-09-2019 10:00

We deservedly won the division 2 league trophy after a solid team performance against parish rivals Clonkill, in sunny Cusack Park last Thursday evening. Clonkill hit back to make it a one-point game but man of the match Brendan McCarthy with a great response added his fifth. Subs; Noel Yourell for A.Savage, Johnny Nally for S.McCarthy (inj), Ger Brennan for C.Savage, Andy Boyhan for C.Bawle. Westmeath GAACommiserations to the Westmeath hurling squad and backroom team on the defeat to Laois in the Joe McDonagh final, well done on getting so far, it just wasnt to be our day but no doubt the lads will be back better and stronger next year in their quest to make amends. In a patchy performance we done enough to win the game but a good goal from the home side proved the difference in the end. Clonkill piled on the pressure, but our defence stood strong, as they had done all evening to keep them at bay and ensure a fine victory. Our opponents hit the ground running after the break and drew level with four unanswered points. Crookedwood GAA Notes Division 2 FinalCrookedwood 0-12 Clonkill 0-10. Conor Savage got us off to a perfect start with a point after 15 seconds, Barry hit two points and Brendan McCarthy got three in a row from play as we led by 0-6 to 0-1 after 22 minutes, Clonkills only score coming from a free from Enda Loughlin in that time. Again, Clonkill hit back to leave the minimum between us but as the game edged towards full time Barry put us two ahead with a lovely score from play to finish off the match scoring. Enda Loughlin narrowed the gap with two more points, but Eddie Nally finished off the first half scoring with a fine point from play to give us a useful four-point lead at the break, 0-7 to 0-4. However, we responded in style with a lovely point from Barry, a massive long range free from Shane McGovern and Brendan added his fourth from play too put three to the good with ten minutes to play. All support appreciated for our games. Afterwards, a delighted James Savage presented the cup to Crookedwood captain Shane McGovern. This was a cagey game from early on and neither side was never any more than a few points ahead at any stage. We take on Fr.Daltons in Round 4 on Saturday next at 5:00 in TEG Cusack Park, all support would be appreciated for this crunch game. The game swung in favour of both teams at various times in the second half but thankfully, deep in injury time, we had nudged ahead and held on for a good win. A one-point victory over Brownstown gave us our second brace of points in the championship.

Crookedwood GAA Notes Senior Championship Crookedwood 1-17 Brownstown 1-16 In round 3 of the championship we took on Brownstown, knowing that anything less than a win would almost certainly end our interest in this years campaign. The last time both sides met in a championship game was the 2015 Intermediate final, where Brownstown emerged victorious by a mere two points.

Well done to our own Shane McGovern came on at half time and acquitted himself well. It was point for point after that, but we managed to hang on for a vital win. The senior footballers won their first-round qualifier and will meet Limerick on Saturday next in Cusack Park, best of luck to all especially former Crookedwood hurler Ronan Wallace. All support appreciated for this game. Next draw jackpot is 4850. The crucial score of the second half came courtesy of a rasping 21yd free from Shane McGovern to put us a point up. No jackpot winner, prize winners, Donal Kenny, Ellie Norris, Paul Rock. Division 2Crookedwood 1-12 Clonkill 0-14. Barry OMara is also part of the panel.
