Our Prediction:

Garbine Muguruza will win

Shuai Peng – Garbine Muguruza Match Prediction | 24-09-2019 05:00

With eight breaks in her last four sets, Muguruza seems to be getting her feet under her and putting together some consistent tennis, much better than what she finished 2018 with. Muguruza won 58 of her total services points and produced six breaks on nine break points. Garbine Muguruza is coming off a straight sets win over Mona Barthel that took 21 games to decide. In the victory, Muguruza won 69 percent of her first serve points and 39 percent of her second serve points. This is a tournament Muguruza has to feel she can win with the field opening up. Muguruza has won all four sets this tournament, and while shes capable of being better with her second serve, shes been aggressive with her return and has made light work of her opponents. Muguruza has won six of her last eight matches on hard court.

Muguruza will be tested in her Zhuhai opener against Shuai Zhang. Zhang may be the lowest ranked player in Zhuhai this week but she has a solid game that will beat Muguruza if the Spaniard does not play a good match. This is particularly true in situations like this when she hasnt played for a while. It is always tough to know what to expect from Garbine Muguruza.

However, Yastremska must clean up the unforced errors if shes going to make an even deeper run. Dayana Yastremska is coming off a straight sets win over Shuai Peng that took 17 games to decide. Yastremska won 68 percent of her total service points and saved all four of her break points. It wasnt the cleanest performance from Yastremska, which included five double faults, but she was never in danger of losing the match that took less than an hour and a half to complete. In the victory, Yastremska won 83 percent of her first serve points and 58 percent of her second serve points. Yastremska has a chance to win three matches in a single tournament for the first time since Luxembourg of last year.

She also seems to play her best tennis when under the radar so a big fortnight for the Spaniard isnt out of the question. Jim:Muguruzas French Open triumph in 2016 seems quite a long time ago now, but it continues to speak to her quality on a clay court.

Shuai Peng

Vondrousova did win their only previous match earlier this year in Budapest, but that was on a hard court. Potapova, as she showed in dismantling Angelique Kerber in the first round, is far more at home on the clay. Jim:Both Potapova and Vondrousova scored statement wins in the first round, and this could well prove to be one of the most intriguing matches of the day.

Im going to side with Zhang here. Muguruza has been unconvincing for much of 2018 and that has been true over the last few months. Indeed Zhangs consistent game should see her sneak through this one against a potentially rusty and distracted Muguruza. Zhang on the hand has been in good form and enjoys playing in China where she will receive great support. Zhang's defensively ability is likely to frustrate Muguruza in her first match for while.

Shuai Peng vs Garbie Muguruza (23 September 2019)

But the Latvian has a game well-suited to the clay and looked good in brushing aside Luksika Kumkhum in the first round. Jim:Sevastova has never played her best tennis at Roland Garros, with a third-round showing in 2017 her best effort to date in the French capital.

After dropping the first set 7-5, the Spaniard cleaned up her errors, sharpened up her serve and blasted her way to an opening round win. Johanna Larsson came to Paris having lost nine of her last 10 matches, so her win against Rybarikova has to feel pretty good. Tracey:Garbine Muguruza withstood the test of Taylor Townsend.

The second serve has given Zhang serious trouble in her losses, as opponents have feasted on it and used it to put her behind the eight ball in matches. Zhang has made it out of the first round of a grand slam in six of her last eight appearances. Shuai Zhang enters this tournament losing eight of her 12 matches and has won just three matches since the Wimbledon. Zhang is coming off a performance in which she won just 48 percent of total service points and had four double faults. If Zhang is going to pull off the upset tin this match, thats an area that has to drastically improve. Zhang has split her last six matches on hard court.

However, Zhang has been so bad with her second serve that its hard seeing her get the job done here or even compete. I try to avoid Muguruza often when betting WTA tennis. Muguruza is so hit or miss that shes never a safe bet to win a match, as her confidence is easily shot and the unforced errors pile up.

Tracey:After bringing in a straight sets win against Venus Williams, Ukrainian superstar Elina Svitolina should be feeling more than confident. In fact, after starting her French Open campaign against one of the tours toughest, little should concern Svitolina going forward.
